Mandibular Fractures


Classification - Dentition, location, favorability of repair, and relation to environment

Diagnosis - Pain, swelling, tenderness, malocclusion, intraoral lacerations, loose teeth, numbness in V3, trismus, bleeding from the ear

X-rays - Towne's, lateral oblique, PA and Panorex

Treatment

  • Open Fractures - Require antibiotics; reduction and fixation (open or closed) if malocclusion present
  • Closed Fractures - Reduction and fixation (open or closed) if malocclusion present
  • Normal Occlusion - Soft diet, analgesics and early follow-up
