Special Body Regions

Burns that involve the face, eyes and ears, hands, feet, genitalia, perineum, or major joints are considered special body regions. Even partial-thickness burns in these areas may demand hospital admission. They are considered special because any loss of their function can have a profound effect on the patient’s ability to perform daily activities.
